About Bindoon State Forest

Located approximately 80 kilometers north of Perth, Bindoon State Forest spans several thousand hectares of open eucalypt forests and mixed woodlands. The forest is characterized by jarrah, marri, and banksia trees, creating an ideal habitat for native wildlife such as western grey kangaroos, emus, and a variety of bird species. Historically, the area has been used for timber production, but today it focuses on conservation and recreation. Bindoon State Forest has well-maintained trails suitable for hiking, mountain biking, and four-wheel driving, offering visitors a range of outdoor activities. Popular spots include walking trails that lead to scenic lookouts with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and seasonal wildflower displays. Camping sites are distributed throughout, with some providing facilities and others more primitive for backcountry enthusiasts. The forest also functions as an important area for local Indigenous heritage, with traditional custodians maintaining strong cultural connections to the land. Seasonal variations provide distinct visitor experiences: spring brings vibrant wildflowers while summer can be hot and dry, making early morning or late afternoon outings preferable. The forest’s accessibility from Perth makes it a favored weekend destination for locals and tourists interested in nature-based recreation and quiet forest escapes.
